Happy National Creative Day! Both Einstein and I Happy National Creative Day!

Both Einstein and I agree on this one thing about this day -- When you get stuck, do something creative

If you followed me during this month for the Create Better Content Challenge, you’ve heard me say those words. I say those words over and over because this has become the basic foundation about how I create the content for my business.

I repeat those words when I work through content strategy with my clients.

And what do I mean by Do Something Creative?

Einstein called this process “combinatory play” - the act of rejuvenating the analytical part of the brain by participating in something that opens the right side of the creative part of your brain.

Einstein learned to play the violin. When he was struggling with solving a math problem, he would spend hours playing music until the answer appeared as an insight.

When you’re feeling stuck and not sure what to do, go do something creative.

And let me remind you that when I say the word ‘creative,’ I don’t mean to pick up a paint brush or write a book.

I mean something that’s going to stimulate the right side of your brain like walking your dog in a different neighborhood and noticing the colors of the leaves in the trees that you pass.

It means baking a blueberry cobbler or any of the 15 creative activity ideas that I’ve shared with you this month.
Doing something creative is really you keeping yourself in motion.

Any form of motion beats sitting there forcing yourself to come up with an answer. And inspiration will always be drawn to you when you take action.

So when you find yourself getting stuck on what to post and what you need to write for your next sales page copy, do something creative.

Do something other than just sitting there in front of your laptop. And trust that when you engage with your creative energy, the inspiration will find its way to you.
Some of the greatest thinkers like Steve Jobs and Some of the greatest thinkers like Steve Jobs and Winston Churchill were big walkers. Charles Dickens would walk up to 30 miles a day while working through the content of his books.

One of the biggest challenges of creating content is getting yourself into a creative mindset. And when you take a walk, not only do you feel better physically, you actually start to get insights about something that’s been swirling around in your head.

Walking facilitates this creative process and with each step you take, you’ll find yourself in a frame of mind that brings you clarity and focus on your content ideas.

For today’s creative exercise, I want you to go for a walk but do it in a NEW neighborhood or new place in your town.

Walking around a new neighborhood helps you slow down to appreciate your surroundings so take the time to stroll and find interesting things like someone’s garden or a stained glass window on that cool front door.

Going to someplace new stimulates your brain, sharpens your cognitive abilities and increases your creativity.

Use this time to push yourself out of your comfort box and tap into the creative right-side of your brain as you move into a new environment.

When you go on your walk, have an idea in your head about something that you want to work through and by the time you end your walk, write out the creative ideas that came to you.

Make notes about how far you came from when you began your walk to when you ended it.

Have you ever found yourself just feeling stuck wi Have you ever found yourself just feeling stuck with your content creation … and I don’t mean that feeling of staring at a blank page but the struggle when your content workflow gets … stuck.

This space is what I would call a Content Bottleneck.

A content bottleneck happens when you want to deliver a certain amount of content but don’t have the resources like the tools or the help to make it happen.

When the balance between the content you WANT to create and the resources available aren’t adding up - that’s where the bottleneck issues turn into production problems.

As business owners, we’re under constant pressure to consistently develop remarkable content as well as increasing the social platforms where we’re supposed to be sharing it.

And to get there, we need to increase the speed at which we produce our content.

The content bottleneck shows up in the gap between the demand for the content and our ability to deliver that amount of content with the resources that are available to us.

So how do you work through the bottleneck:

✅ quantity/we need more content

✅ vs quality/we need better content

✅ vs frequency/we need to be in more places?

Try mapping out your content workflow and do a deep dive on the stages a piece of content goes through from idea to creation to posting.

Look at the resources { people, tools } you have allocated for your content creation process and how long each step takes.

By reviewing your process, you’ll get a better idea of your content workflow and which areas are impacting your creation process. It’ll help you see if you’re missing a step, something is taking too long and what part of your workflow is causing the bottleneck.

Once you identify the places in your content workflow that are holding you back from scaling the amount of your content, you can begin to see where to focus your efforts to make a beneficial change to help you do more and do it better.
